While the rest of the world is focused on the 2026 Winter Games, Channel 3’s own David Greenberg has his sights set a little further out, specifically, the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles!
We were thrilled to host David and the Channel 3 News team right here at our Beachwood facility to give them a taste of what modern swordplay is all about. From the moment he stepped onto the strip, it was clear David was ready to “give it a go,” though he quickly learned that fencing is as much a workout for the brain as it is for the quads.
“I’m Feeling it in the Quads!”
Fencing is often called “physical chess,” and David got a firsthand look at why. Between perfecting the “on guard” stance and learning how to lunge with precision, he discovered the physical demands of the sport.
“You have to be calculating,” explained our coaching staff during the segment. “You have to understand what you want to be doing and not let the apples drop off the apple cart while your opponent is trying to do something quite counter to what you want.”
Fencing for Everyone (Even Future Olympians)
Since we opened our doors five years ago, Cleveland Fencing Academy has been dedicated to making this challenging, “non-threatening” sport accessible to everyone. Whether you’re a kid looking for a new hobby or an adult looking to stay sharp, our Beachwood club is the place to be.
David may have started the day as a reporter, but by the end, he was scoring touches and shouting “Ale!” with the best of them.
