Philosophy

There are many different ways to answer the question: “Why is fencing good for me?”

Love of competition aside, we would probably put it one of three ways: “Fencing makes you as healthy mentally as you are physically”, or perhaps just the opposite is true: “It makes you as healthy physically as you are mentally”. But usually the result of training to be the best fencer you can be is a perfect combination of the above: usually, the end result is that you become healthy and strong  BOTH mentally and physically. Period!  Our philosophy is to take you down the road to get to THAT point. You can even see great strides toward achieving these results after a month or two of training with us.

Often, kids and adults come into our club in great shape, but mentally are not ready to meet the challenges of becoming a fencer. And equally the opposite occurs where a great out-of-the-box thinker or thoughtful and talented child comes in very physically unprepared to participate in a demanding sport.  Well, fencing marries the best of both and makes you continually improve your weaknesses in order for your strengths to continue to develop. Ignoring one basically means ignoring both.  Pretty neat, huh?

Your strengths and weaknesses become apparent to our coaches after just one months sessions. We will prepare the best plan of action to bring you to a state of mental and physical health. Along the route comes conditioning, concentration, planning, creating, strengthening, mastering, repeating, and of course camaraderie and enjoyment.  And then comes the rewards: competitions, medals, recognition, pride, confidence, and on and on the list goes!

Fencers are often the best students in their classes, get into the best colleges, excel in lots of other activities, reach their goals in life.  Perhaps it is the type of person who is attracted to this sport, or maybe the sport is what helps make the person.  Back to the chicken or egg question, I guess. Either way, joining CFA automatically puts you amongst a group of winners and those who achieve to be so!

Fencing sure has this Ying Yang thing pervasive in every paragraph.  Hmmm.

Time to get back to the strip before we overthink this too much!
